Nancy asks…

A children's from the 90's that was a toy dog that gave birth via velcro belly. Name?

My sister had this toy dog back when we were kids ('95-'98) and it had a hole in it's belly that was held closed with Velcro, but when you pried it open, you would find puppies (smaller versions of the mom). The dog was long, and usually had odd color fur (purple or pink), and long white hair for it's tail and head. It was NOT pound puppies, although, I suppose it could have been some version of pound puppies and I didn't know it. If anyone can give me a ANY ideas as to what this toy was called I will be very thankful.

Puppy surprise! Puppy surprise! How many baby puppies will there be inside? (Yeah, the TV ads of the 90s got to me too much).

Children's toy (probably) from early 2000's?

So when I was younger I had this little electronic thing where you could buy little chips and stick them in and the thing had headphones and it would play a clip from a song. I had like Britney Spears and possibly NSYNC =P These things were probably from the early 2000's or very late 90's. Anyway my description is very vague but I'm trying to remember what they were called.

Stuffed Easter Duck/Chicken from the 90's?

I am looking for a stuffed duck or chicken from my childhood. I believe it came out around Easter time, mid to late 90's and was sold at maybe Wal-Mart or Kmart. It wasn't shaped like an animal, more like a doll. It had a duck or chicken like head (yellow) and its feet were made to look like it was wearing slippers that looked exactly like its own head. The body was in a print that had little chickens and other children's toys on it. There was a little puff of hair on the top of its head and a little bushy tail on its bottom. My sister had a bunny that was in the same style so I don't know if there were any other animals as well. This toy was very important to me as a child and I lost it on a camping trip. I have searched every where I can possibly think of with no success. Can anyone out there help? Every Spring I look in all the stores and find toys that look similar, I am praying that one day I will come across one that is like the one I loved so dearly!

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

It sounds like a Suzy's Zoo product. When I was in college in the mid-80s, I worked for a card store that sold her (Suzy Spafford) card line and she had a lot of cutsie drawings like that (she had a whole series of cards where the little bunnies, chickies, & duckies were in bathrobes w/ slippers that looked like their heads). In the early 90's she hit big and introduced a stuffed animal line. I don't know if they still make it but she's still producing and I've provided a link to her website.

Where can I find unwanted children's games and toys?

I live in the Dundee area and work with some very dprived children where board games and construction toys are not available to play with at home. I am looking for unwanted presents, grown out of toys and toys which are taking up space in someone's bedroom. Is there anyone out there who can help?

Freecycle.org will allow you to meet people who love to give their unwanted things to people who will give them a good home. It's one of my favorite things!

Ken asks…

Would taking away your child's toys and video games early in their age affect them in the future?

Just out of curiousity. I meant by taking it away or not buying it at all for them. Would they turn out differently in the future? Would your child turn out better or worse in the future because of this action.

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

I'm not sure what kind of toys you are talking about. Certain toys are very beneficial to kids. Play-doh, Legos, art supplies…..all of these things enhance the creative ability of children. Bicycles, roller blades and balls give them good gross motor skills and burn calories. These are toys I would not take away at any age. But video games? Never bought them in the first place! My kids get a kick occasionally out of playing video games at a friend's house. They have GameBoys to entertain them on very long trips. Other than that, there are no video games in our lives, and we don't miss them.

Anybody know any good storage solutions for children's toys?

Essentially my 2 yo daugter has a small room. I was looking at Ikea and found they sell something called the TROFAST which is essentially 6 boxes in a frame that is like 99.99!!!!!. I was looking at getting rubermaid storage boxes etc.

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

As a kid, I had most of my toys on a shelf, or in a toy box. The problem with a toy box, is that all the smaller stuff falls to the bottom, to never be seen again, until such a time that it is emptied. I found that baskets on a shelf help organize things. Shelves are easy to build with supplies from your local building materials store. You can paint them to match the decor, and the likes. I also train my child to put things back where she found them, make a game of it at the end of the day prior to her going to bed. Instruct her that when she is done with a toy to put it away. Another helpful thing (since i live in a house without a basement) is a coffee table that has a shelf or is enclosed so you can put stuff in there, and out of sight. Toy boxes can be a pain to build to meet safety standards – ie the lid that does not slam down – good luck finding those hinges – I was unable to find anything suitable for that purpose, so the toy box i built is out in my garage hiding my power tools. Pictures pinned/taped/glued to the shelf is also a good way of helping your child to put things in their place. Once you build a shelf (with probably better wood than what you would get at ikea) you can also use the rubbermaid products to put on the shelf. Doors on said shelves also help hide toys. – Use kitchen cabinet hinges as they are durable, and can take a beating. Any shelving solution you do, ensure that you use an angle bracket to connect it to the wall to prevent tipping in case your child is a climber, so the shelves do not topple on top of your child. Also the paint you use, please ensure it is not lead based, use a semi gloss or a high gloss as opposed to a flat finish to help with washing them off or dusting them off, so you can use a damp rag. It does not rub off.

Robert asks…

How can I build a small outdoor storage shed, or just some type of cover for my child's toys, etc?

Nothing fancy, just something to keep my childs toys protected from the weather. Remind you, I'm a woman, pretty strong, but can't do something very big. Thanks

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

If you would like to build, then a whole bunch of 2×4 and plywood. If you would like to buy, rubbermaid. Whatever you do, check with your home owner's association.

Storage Problems with Toys-what to do?

I have no room in our apartment yet i must take back what I have been using to store the children's toys in …our full size freezer! Tell me where or what or how do I store away all the children's toys neatly so no one sees them. I have no place for a new cupboard and no place for a toy box and no cupboards to put them in as it stands. If I let the toys be available at all times, without a place to clean them away to the childrean have full access and create a big mess they only enjoy for 5 mins. And I have to clean up for hours. WHat to do? Where do toys belong? How do I store them? I thought to get cardboard boxes and stack them neatly on the freezer.?

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

Storage totes that can be stacked or even slid underneath a bed.

John asks…

why didn't hess make enough toy trucks this year?

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

The 2007 Monster Truck was not very popular and many Hess Stations still had them left over months after Christmas. One station I went to this year was sold out of 2008s, yet they still had 2007s available. I figure Hess probably assumed that the 2008 would sell about the same. The problem is that I feel 2008 is a much cooler truck and lots of other people felt the same way making it much more popular. As a result, you had the same number of trucks out there, but a much higher demand. I also have heard that Hess advertised more heavily this year. No doubt about it, they should have been able to better predict that this years truck would be a hot one!

Donna asks…

can someone help me identify this toy truck from the late 80s or early 90s?

i used to have a green toy truck that ran on 2 aa batteries. this truck was a 4×4 that had a few trailers that attached behind eachother in between each trailer including the truck. the attachment between each trailer and the truck doubled as a driveshaft to power the wheels of the trailers. im having trouble trying to find this truck on the net. any idea would be great.

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

That sounds like a Stanley Steamer or a classic wrap combination truck, made through and designed by Styles Q. Weinberg who used to work for Matel in the late eighties, you might have heard of him if you're into collective trucks. Unfortunately they're very rare since most were recalled due to a heavy carcinogen in the paint but some sellers, mostly in south-west would still have them. Good luck!

Charles asks…

how many sizes do the monster jam toy trucks come in?

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

My son loves those things. I have found them in almost a small Matchbox size car, the size of a larger Tonka size truck, and about 2 1/2 feet long by 2 feet tall as a remote truck. There are probably about 6 sizes or so out there.

Steven asks…

How do you program rocky toy truck from matchbox?

My son got rocky for x-mas and I have followed the directions and the toy still will not dance or respond to sound. It still is on demo….. Help…….

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

Usually there is a switch to turn it on and off and most of the time you can turn it from on off and demo also taking the batteries out and puting new ones in refreshes the toy.

What is the name of the late 70s / early 80's programmable / robotic six wheel toy truck?

You could program it to move a certain number of feet, then turn in a certain direction, then move again… It looked like a toy truck, but it was rather sophisticated at the time. That's it! Thanks, Jeni! :-)

Where do all of the Toys for Tots toys go?

I know that they are collected to be distributed to the needy and underprivileged, but where are all of these kids? With collections at every mall, theme park, community center, through the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Marines, CHP, churches, schools, The Harley Run… There must be hundreds of thousands of toys collected just in Los Angeles Metro alone! Where are all of the kids who receive these? Does each kid just get one toy? Are the parents embarrassed at all to take their kids over to get toys?

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

The toys are delivered to the families who then give the gifts to the children. They can be from "Santa" or the parents or the parents can let them know the background story. Many of the children are in group homes or have a social worker who has signed them up. There are family support workers in schools and other agencies that help families take advantage of the generosity that many people feel at this time of year. Some programs do not limit the children to one toy only. I don't know about them all.

Maria asks…

Thomas asks…

Toys for tots. How does it work?

I don't have any children, but have always wondered about what qualifies a person for Toys for Tots. I am always leary of donating to any organization because I think there are a lot of able bodied people that just are lazy and expect others to just give them everything. It seems that way in my area anyways. I used to work with a young mom that would brag about not having to shop due to the free toys from Toys for tots. I drive by the warehouse where they are giving them away and there are hundreds of people in line. What does one have to do to apply and qualify for gifts? Is there a limit to how many toys they can take? Is it a first come first serve kind of line? I have plenty of money to give away to the less fortunate at Christmas, but I don't want my generosity to be abused. I'm aware how you go about donating, but can anyone just say they need toys or do they screen the people to make sure that there is a real need for assistance?

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

Hi, this is how toys for tots work. First, you take this amount of money and buy a lot of toddler toys. Then you find an area that says "donate toys for tots here!" or something like that, something including "toys for tots here!" on a sign. Go inside where the sign says to drop off donations and you drop it off in a container (usually a basket). I hope you do good and donate toys for tots! =D

Betty asks…

Are die cast toy trucks worth anything?

my grandfather gave me two boxes of about 14 toy trucks (not the kind children play with but the ones that people collect) and I don't know what to do with them. Some of the names of the trucks are Hess and Kenworth and Mack. How do i find out how old they are (im thinking around the 1960-1990's) Are these worth anything? Where should I sell them? Thanks!

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

Some are, some aren't. I know that is very vague, but, that is how it is. The older ones should be worth more than the newer ones. Your best bet to sell them would be an antiques shop, a collector (do research on collectors) or an auction.

How much is a numbered Unocal 76 Toy Truck worth?

I have number 0003 of the numbered Unocal 76 tanker trucks. Number 0001 and 0002 being given to the President and Vice President of the company. I think they are from 1992 or 93. It is out of the box, but in great condition. I have found similar trucks on ebay, but they are not numbered. I'm just wondering if I should try to sell it, and how much I should ask, or should I just give it to my kids to play with.

tonkatoytrucks.net answers:

Put it on ebay. IF its not worth a lot. Give it to your kids.
